Honfleur Travel & Hotels

Travel Information

Honfleur is one of the most accessible of the 'sights' of Normandy. It is located next to the motorway bridge which connects Upper and Lower Normandy and, although it has no rail services, it offers a pretty good public transport network from the population centres of Caen and Le Havre.

Honfleur by Road

Most people will be accessing Honfleur from the Pont de Normandie bridge:

  • the D580 to the east
This is the main access road from the southern end of the bridge and the easiest way for drivers to get to Honfleur from both Upper and Lower Normandy. From leaving the bridge it is probably ten minutes' drive to the main town car park.

but there is also the option of the coastal route around to Deauville and Trouville:

  • the D513 along the coast
This is the road which takes in the scenery of the countryside and the shoreline of the English Channel on its way to the ritzy resorts of Trouville and, on the other side of the River Touques, Deauville.

Local bus services are provided by the Bus Verts du Calvados, who offer routes to the nearby population centres of Le Havre and Caen.

Honfleur by Rail

Honfleur doesn't have a railway station - the nearest most convenient one is probably across the Seine at Le Havre. Deauville, Lisieux and Pont-l'Évêque are nearby alternatives which also have rail services.

Honfleur by Air

The Deauville-Normandie airport is actually halfway between Deauville and Honfleur and offers a seasonal service to and from London City Airport.

If travelling from within France or from certain parts of Europe, Caen Carpiquet airport may be of some help. However, as with most places within Normandy, by far the most choice and flexibility is offered by using one of the Paris airports and then car or public transport.

Paris - Charles de Gaulle Airport is the main international airport and is located just over 200km from Honfleur via the Lower Normandy route.

Honfleur by Ferry

The closest ferry port is that of Le Havre, which is situated close to the centre of the city. Currently there are daily services to and from Portsmouth, run by LD Lines.
